Background

USD Coin (USDC) is a stablecoin launched in September 2018 by the Centre Consortium, co-founded by Circle and Coinbase. It is designed to maintain a 1:1 peg with the US dollar. USDC is redeemable 1:1 for U.S. dollars and is supported on over 30 blockchain networks. USDC is fully backed by reserves comprising cash and short-duration U.S. Treasury instruments, held by regulated financial institutions and managed by BlackRock.
