Stablecoin Payments Glossary
Invoice Generation
Invoice generation is the creation of a record or payment document that states the amount owed, the payment terms, and the information required to settle the obligation.
Explanation
A stablecoin invoice can specify the fiat-denominated price, stablecoin amount, supported network, destination address, expiration time, transaction reference, and payment status. If the underlying commercial obligation is denominated in fiat, the system can convert the invoice amount into stablecoins using a quoted exchange rate. Invoice systems can also reconcile received transactions with customer orders and accounting records.
Why it matters
Invoice generation links stablecoin settlement to accounting, reconciliation, tax records, and the underlying commercial transaction.
Example
A merchant can issue a $500 invoice and generate a corresponding USDC payment request valid for 15 minutes.
