Stablecoin Payments Glossary
Subscription Billing
Subscription billing is the commercial process used to calculate, schedule, collect, reconcile, and manage recurring charges for an ongoing product or service.
Explanation
A subscription system manages plan terms, billing periods, price changes, taxes, invoices, payment attempts, retries, cancellations, and customer status. Stablecoin collection can be connected to this process through custodial mandates, smart-contract permissions, wallet approvals, or repeated payment requests. Billing logic therefore sits above the payment rail and determines when and how much should be collected.
Why it matters
Subscription billing is necessary for stablecoin payments to support recurring commercial models with plan changes, failed collections, and customer lifecycle management.
Example
A software service can generate a monthly invoice, request the authorized stablecoin payment, retry a failed collection, and suspend service after repeated nonpayment.
